> Students can learn to accurately and safely administer medications to healthcare facility residents. A student becomes a Certified Medication Aide once they have met all state licensing requirements including training eligibility, has met the minimum required amount of training hours, and passes the written state exam. Strict registration criteria include the ability to read, write, and speak English. Students must be 18 years of age or older and free of communicable diseases. A full immunization record and a recent Tuberculosis screening must be presented at registration. Students must provide an original copy or notarized photocopy of a high school diploma or GED. All program trainees also must be currently employed as a registered Texas Certified Nurse Aide in good standing while employed in a licensed long-term care facility, or trainees can be a non-licensed provider employed in a long-term care facility with at least 90 days of patient care experience. The 90 days of experience must be within the last year prior to the class. Once the training program has begun, trainees will be required to do a background check through the State of Texas Health and Human Services Commission and will also be asked to complete a state application that requires a $25 money order application fee in order to apply for state testing and certification. Required textbook can be purchased at the MCC bookstore. Caribbean colored scrubs can be purchased at Swift Uniforms along with the Medication Aide patch.
Learn to accurately & safely administer medications to health care facility residents. Following successful course completion & the required written state testing, graduates are listed on a central roster with the State of Texas Regulatory Services as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA). Strict admission criteria includes: ability to read, write, & speak English; 18 years of age or older; free of communicable diseases & in suitable health to safely administer medications; original copy or notarized photocopy of a high school diploma or GED; and finally either be a registered Texas CNA in good standing while employed in a licensed Medicaid facility or be a non-licensed person employed in a long-term or immediate direct patient care center with at least 90 days of patient care experience within the last year prior to the class. Scrubs (color - carribean) are required for this program along with the MCC CMA Program patch, these can be purchased at Swift Uniforms. Once you have enrolled and submitted your state application, you will be required to complete fingerprinting and you will receive addtional infomration on the process once enrolled.

This course fulfills the HHSC Medication Aide Program's yearly renewal licensing requirements for Certified Medication Aides. Students are required to attend the 7-hour CEU Renewal class once a year and every year to keep their license in active status. For all other inquiries regarding licenses, please contact the Medication Aide Program at medication_aide_program@hhs.texas.gov for further information. Due to state regulations, there is absolutely no admission to class after 9 a.m. Please bring a writing utensil, notebook paper, your active CMA license, and a state-issued picture ID to class. Please note that this program meets on the last Monday of each month unless it falls on a holiday. MCC will not provide tuition refunds based on the student's inability to renew.
This course fulfills the state certification board requirements for recertification of Certified Medication Aides. It is required once yearly for all medication aides before their CMA license expires. If students do not renew yearly, they will have to take however many courses necessary to bring the license up to the current year. (Example: 2 year lapse = 2 CE Renewal Courses & 2 Renewal Applications, Vouchers, & Renewal Fees that would be due to bring your license to an active status.) Due to state regulations, there is absolutely NO admission to class after 9 a.m. Bring a pen/pencil, paper, your current CMA license and a state-issued picture ID to class.
