> Students can learn to accurately and safely administer medications to healthcare facility residents. A student becomes a Certified Medication Aide once they have met all state licensing requirements including training eligibility, has met the minimum required amount of training hours, and passes the written state exam. Strict registration criteria include the ability to read, write, and speak English. Students must be 18 years of age or older and free of communicable diseases. A full immunization record and a recent Tuberculosis screening must be presented at registration. Students must provide an original copy or notarized photocopy of a high school diploma or GED. All program trainees also must be currently employed as a registered Texas Certified Nurse Aide in good standing while employed in a licensed long-term care facility, or trainees can be a non-licensed provider employed in a long-term care facility with at least 90 days of patient care experience. The 90 days of experience must be within the last year prior to the class. Once the training program has begun, trainees will be required to do a background check through the State of Texas Health and Human Services Commission and will also be asked to complete a state application that requires a $25 money order application fee in order to apply for state testing and certification. Required textbook can be purchased at the MCC bookstore. Caribbean colored scrubs can be purchased at Swift Uniforms along with the Medication Aide patch.
