Patient Care Technicians provide direct patient care and assist doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals with performing day-to-day care. Patient Care Technicians care for patients by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), obtaining patient vital signs, communicating with the healthcare team and patients, complying with confidentiality requirements, performing EKG/ECGs, and Phlebotomy procedures. Patient Care Technicians play a vital role as a member of the healthcare team and are often the ones with the most direct contact with patients. The clinical portion of the program requires a light blue (ceil) color scrub set, a Patient Care Tech patch, a second-hand watch, and tennis shoes. Upon Once completion of the Patient Care Technician program, the student will be eligible to sit for the Patient Care Technician exam through the National Center for Competency Testing and/or AMCA. The exam costs are included with tuition. Student responsibilities include a full immunization record including the COVID-19 vaccine, Tuberculosis testing, criminal background check, drug screening, and high school diploma or GED. Learn to accurately & safely administer medications to health care facility residents. Following successful course completion & the required written state testing, graduates are listed on a central roster with the State of Texas Regulatory Services as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA). Strict admission criteria includes: ability to read, write, & speak English; 18 years of age or older; free of communicable diseases & in suitable health to safely administer medications; original copy or notarized photocopy of a high school diploma or GED; and finally either be a registered Texas CNA in good standing while employed in a licensed Medicaid facility or be a non-licensed person employed in a long-term or immediate direct patient care center with at least 90 days of patient care experience within the last year prior to the class. Once you have enrolled and submitted your state application, you will need to contact medication_aide_program@hhs.texas.gov to request the IdentiGo service code for background check fingerprinting & go to the Woodway facility to have them processed for your state license application.
